The cave of the lakes Kastria
 |
The cave is located on the way from Kalavrita to Klitoria at an altitude of 827m. It is 17km from Kalavrita and 9km from Klitoria.
The natural entrance to the cave is right on the road, while the man-made entry is a few metres away.
This cave impresses the visitor even by its mere name. Lakes inside a cave are a unique geological phenomenon, not common internationally or elsewhere in Greece.
The cave can be divided into parts:
The first part is 80m long, dry and covered in red soil. The second part is 700m long and holds subsequent lakes. The third is the largest part.
The cave is a rare natural creation, with labyrinth-type corridors, mysterious alcoves, magnificent stalactites and terraced lakes; truly unique in the world.
The explored section of the cave covers 1980m, but visitors can only walk through a 500m stretch. The visitor enters from the man-made entry and comes out onto the second level. This section makes one feel awe and admiration. The crossing from one lake to another is possible by a series or artificial bridges.
