The landscape is awesome as it unfolds within the deep and steep Vouraikos Gorge. Once at Kalavrita station you continue towards Helmos. A short hike upwards brings you to the chapel of Aghios Nikolaos. Continue above Ano Lousoi and you come across a spring water tap next to the footpath, then you hike up and reach Kato Lousoi where there are lots of spring water taps and a coffee shop. Leaving the village's small main square, you take the road on the left, cross the bridge and continue until you reach the little chapel at the end of the village. By continuing to the left of the road you come to the deep ravine of Lagada. Stay on the right side until you come across the dirt track which enters into the ravine. Turn to the left and follow the track until you reach a watering-trough (an hour and a quarter). From this point, you change direction and descend directly into the torrent's bed. Cross over and begin your ascent of the left side in a south-southeast direction. Shortly after, you come to a field track and an hour and a half later having hiked through a sign- posted wide, rough area you come to Planitero. From Planitero you continue towards Arbounas. Just before the village, there is a mountain spring with huge plane trees in the vicinity. Along the route from Arbounas to Tourlada on the right hand- side below lies the valley of Aroanio with all plantations, houses and villages. Once out of the village you take the road to Klitoria, now heading westwards instead of southwards as before. Before you reach the winding part of the road, near a chapel, you get off the road and now heading southwards you take the footpath to Krinofita. From the main square in Krinofita you head up towards Likouria. | | TRAIL | Peristera (Solos) - Waters of Stygos | | ALTITUDE | Peristera 1000m - Neraidorahi 2341m | | RATING | Moderate | | DURATION | 3.5 hours | | DESCRIPTION | The most spectacular ascent starts off from the village of Peristera (or Solos). The lake of Tsivlou is a spot of great beauty (700m), located in a forest, a few kilometres from Peristera. You start off on a rural track which brings you to a pine-tree forest and by following the footpath you reach a characteristic location with wonderful view (2.5 hours). At this point the footpath has collapsed somewhat, which may be misleading, but stay on it for another half an hour until you reach the base of the waterfalls of the Waters of Stygos. | | TRAIL | Spring waters of Ladonas - Pangratio -Pafsania's vine-branch | | ALTITUDE | Pangratio 860m | | RATING | Moderate | | DURATION | 2 hours | | DESCRIPTION | From the spring waters of Ladonas take the sign-posted footpath, pass by a water-mill and start your ascent until you reach, about an hour later, the village Pangration (850m).
